Police arrest 8 suspects in Ijebu-Igbo cult clash

OPERATIVES of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested eight suspects in connection with Wednesday night’s cult clash in Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State.

Nigerian Tribune learnt that the clash, between members of the Eiye and Aiye confraternities, resulted in the killing of one person.

According to the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the suspects were arrested at their hideout where they were holding a meeting in preparation for another deadly crash.

The PPRO said immediately the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Ahmed Iliyasu, got information on the clash, he directed the special units of the command such as the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad F-SARS and the Anti Cultism and Kidnapping sections to move in and bring the hoodlums to justice.

“In compliance with the CP’s directive, the Officer-in-charge of FSARS, DSP Uba Adam, swung into action and embarked on a technical intelligence-based investigation.

“Their co-accomplice, who also played a prominent role, was traced to his house by the rival group and hacked to death early on Friday morning before police operatives got to his house to effect his arrest,” the PPRO said.
