THE police in Kaduna has arrested 42 Shiites for their alleged involvement in a protest that led to the killing of a policeman.

It will be recalled that the police and the Shiites have been involved in the bloody clash in Kaduna since on Wednesday when members of the Islamic movement called for the unconditional release of the leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

On Thursday, it was gathered that when their leader was supposed to be arraigned before a Kaduna High Court, the hostility continued leading to the death of a police officer.

Speaking on the clash, the police image maker, Mukhtar Aliyu, confirmed the arrest of the 42 Shiites members.

He said they were arrested in connection with the bloody protest which led to the brutal killing of a police officer in the state capital on Thursday.

According to the PPRO, the late police officer was stabbed in the stomach and he was conveyed to the hospital but later gave up the ghost.

Aliyu also said that normalcy had returned to the state capital and its environs on Friday.

‘If you move around you will see that our men had been deployed to strategic places in order to ensure that there is no break down of law and order, he stressed.
