THE Nigeria Police Force, Bayelsa State Command says it has arrested the killer of a Police Constable, Sammy Saturday, attached to the Counter Terrorism Unit (CPU) at Tombia Roundabout in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
The State Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mukan, while parading suspected armed robbers and cultists said the alleged cop killer was arrested through its recent partnership with vigilante groups and other stakeholders across in the State.
According to him, the suspect, Funkeye Timbofa 24 years when arrested led the police to a hideout where other members of his robbery gang, Evans Kuro, Taye Paul and Diepriye Ogbolafor who admitted to killing the deceased policeman.
Addressing newsmen, he said: “Upon my assumption of office and after an in-depth analysis of the crime pattern, I noticed that the most prevalent crimes in the state are cultism, armed robbery and rape. Worried by this, I embarked on community engagement with critical stakeholders.
“Following this critical engagement, on 16-11-2018 about 5am, the command clearance squared arrested one Funkeye Timbofa in connection with armed robbery and murder of Cpl Sammy Saturday of counter-terrorism unit on the 14-10-2018 at Tombia Roundabout.
“The suspect led the police to arrest other members of the gang who confessed to being a member of Greenland confraternity. An investigation is ongoing.
“Also on 13-11-2018 policemen from SIB arrested one Solomon James 27 years, who stabbed to death one Rabiu Saidu 20 years on 11-04-2018 at Tombia junction, Yenagoa. An investigation is ongoing to recover the murder weapon and the suspect will soon be charged to court.”
