Police arrest 12 Ekiti varsity students over cultism

THE Ekiti State Police Command has revealed it has arrested no fewer than 12 suspected cultists in Osekita area along Iworoko Road of the state capital.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Caleb Ikechukwu, in a statement made available to the Nigerian Tribune in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday, said the suspects were students of the Ekiti State University.

He added that they were arrested on Wednesday by men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) while performing initiation for some members.

Ikechukwu, who said the suspects confessed to be a member of Aiye confraternity, disclosed that they would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.

“The suspects were arrested while performing cult initiation activities in Osekita area, off Iworoko Road.

“They confessed to being members of the Aiye confraternity and students of the Ekiti State University.

“Exhibits found on them at the time of their arrest include, two live cartridges, two battle axes, one hammer, one cutlass, two black berets, seven pieces of suspected fake $100, wraps of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.”

The PPRO said the Commissioner of Police, Amba Asuquo, has, therefore, called on parents to monitor their wards in higher institutions and instil proper values in them.
