Police arrest 106 suspected thugs within 10 days — Kano CP

The Kano state Command of the Nigeria Police has disclosed that within ten days of assumption of office of the Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba, a total number of 106 suspected thugs have been arrested.

The suspects were said to have been arrested at various criminal hideouts across the state, during a special raid led by the new Commissioner of Police, Mr. Salman Dogo Garba.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, made this known on Thursday while speaking on behalf of the state Commissioner of Police during a press conference at the Bompai police headquarters in Kano.

Mr Garba also added that other suspects that made up the 43 arrested were 25 suspected armed robbers, two suspected kidnappers, three suspected drug dealers, three suspected vehicle thieves, two suspected motorcycle thieves and eight suspected thieves.

The Commissioner of Police then expressed optimism that intensifying patrols in the affected areas and increased collaborations with relevant stakeholders would surely lead to the eradication of thuggery activities and other crimes in the state.

He said, “Let me emphasise on the zero-tolerance stance of the Police Command towards criminal activities, particularly, thuggery (Daba) which have not only posed a threat to the security and safety of the affected communities where lives and properties were lost and caused injuries to innocent citizens but also affecting the overall development of the state.

“The Command will continue to conduct public awareness campaigns and sensitization through its public relations unit to educate people about the dangers of crimes as well as the importance of reporting any suspicious or criminal activities promptly to the nearest authority.”

Garba then urged members of the public to remain vigilant and also encouraged community involvement “in our collective efforts to combat any emerging security threat and create a safe and more secure environment for all.”

He however disclosed that “The Kano Police Command remains resolute in its commitment to combating thuggery (Daba) and other criminal activities and will spare no effort in ensuring the safety and security of all Kano residents.

“We must appreciate the law-abiding people of the state for their continuous support, prayers, understanding, and cooperation.

“In case of emergency, Kano State Police Command can be contacted through the following emergency numbers:

“Items recovered during the Special ill Raid included: One Pump-Action Riffle, two motor vehicles, cutlasses, and pointed-rods,  eight tricycles, 12 motorcycles, 58 knives, three bows and arrows, 87 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp,
