Police arrest 10 in Bauchi for rape, homosexuality

Not fewer than 10 suspected sexually related offenders have been arrested by Bauchi State Police Command for engaging in sexual related offences including rape and homosexuality.

Among the suspects is one Gwanda Amos, a 28-year-old man who defiled 8 minors aged between 4 and 8 years.

A statement from the Police Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ahmed Wakili, said that one female, identified as Roseline Tamako, 35, and seven others jointly reported at the Tafawa Balewa Divisional Headquarters, Bauchi that sometime in April 2020, they noticed unusual and abnormal behaviours from their daughters (names withheld).

The statement further contained that when the complainants questioned their children, they discovered that the suspect had allegedly been defiling them adding that the children often cried of pains from their genitals each time they were having their bath.

The PPRO added that: “Upon inquiry, the first complainant’s child revealed to her that it was their uncle, named Gwanda Amos, 28, of the same address, who usually called them into his room and forcefully had sexual intercourse with them.”

The statement further contained that, “She added that her daughter told her the suspect threatened to kill them if they disclosed the matter. Hence, she contacted other parents and they had the same experience. The suspect was immediately arrested.”

Ahmed Wakili also stated that another complainant reported that his seven-year-old daughter was defiled by one Usman Mohammed in his Tudun Salmanu, Bauchi house.

“On June 16, 2020, around 11 am, one Hamza Idris of Tudun Salmanu Bauchi reported that on the same date around 10 am, one Usman Mohammed, of the same address, had carnal knowledge of his daughter in his house.

“Upon receipt of the information, a patrol team attached to the Division swung into action and got the suspect arrested and he equally confessed to the crime,” Wakili stated.

He added that “on June 10, around 10 am, operatives attached to the Command, following a tip-off, arrested one Abdullahi Muazu, 32, and Adamu Idris, 22, suspected to have “engaged themselves in sexual intercourse against the order of nature.”

“Also, On the 5/04/2020 at about 21:26hrs one Ibrahim Salihu Umar of Makama new extension Federal Low-cost Bauchi reported at ‘D’ Division that, on same date about 19:30hrs, one Yusuf Saleh aged 36 of Zango area of Bauchi lured his younger brother, one Umar Ibrahim 20yrs into an uncompleted building situated at same address and forcefully had anal-sexual intercourse with him without his consent thereafter he bought a Bobo juice, one pure bliss biscuit and tido picas Biscuits to him. Following the report, one suspect mention below has been arrested and confessed to the crime. Yusuf Sale aged 36 of Zango ward Bauchi state.

“Similarly, on the 10/06/202 at about 10:00hrs, operatives attached to the Command on tip-off arrested one Abdullahi Muazu aged 32 and Adamu Idris 22 years all of Azare, Katagum L.G.A Bauchi state, suspected to have engaged themselves in sexual intercourse against the other of nature.

“Upon investigation, the suspects confessed and mentioned their syndicates as: one Alhaji Ahmed Azare aged 60 years, a lecturer attached to Aminu Sale Collage of Education, Azare, Ishyaku Hassan aged 48, attached to Emirate Council, Katagum, Babangida Hashimu 24yrs, Kamal Ismail 22 yrs, Misbahu Ibrahim 24yrs, and Sadiq Shehu all males of Azare, operatives of the Bureau swung into action and arrested the aforementioned suspects.”

The Commissioner of Police, Lawan Jimeta, according to the statement, enjoined the people of the state to report any suspicious individual or group and desist from concealing any form of offence in their vicinity.  He further called on parents and guardians to be inquisitive and place their children on the watch.
