Police arraign two men for unlawful possession of pistol

The police on Wednesday arraigned two men, Hammed Abiodun, 22, and Wilson Ahior, 31, in an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for alleged unlawful possession of a locally made pistol.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Abiodun and Ahior of undisclosed address were arraigned on a one-count charge of unlawful possession of a firearm.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Adedayo Bello told the court that the defendants on July 22 at about 4 pm at Iwo Road roundabout, Ibadan, allegedly had in their possession one locally made pistol.

Bello alleged that Abiodun was caught with the local pistol, leading to the arrest of Ahior who admitted to keeping the pistol with Abiodun.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 3 and punishable under Section 27(1) (b) I of the Firearms Act, Cap F28, Laws of Federal Republic of Nigeria, Cap 2004.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Emmanuel Idowu, granted the defendants N10,000 bail each with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the matter till Sept. 25 for definite hearing.
