Police arraign 33-year-old man for allegedly beating up his younger sister

The police on Wednesday arraigned a 33-year-old man, Patrick Joseph, who allegedly used a stick to beat up his younger sister in an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court, Osun.

Joseph, whose address was not provided, is charged with assault.

The police prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Osanyintuyi told the court that the accused committed the offence on Feb 24 at 10 a.m. at No. 26, Aladanla St., Line 4, Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi said the accused assaulted his sister, Miss Chinyere Orji, 21.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 351 and 516 of the Criminal Law of Osun, 2002.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Ola Ibrahim, prayed the court to admit his client to bail on a liberal term, saying that he would not jump bail.

In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs Bose Idowu, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20, 000 with one surety in like sum.

Idowu ordered that the surety must swear to an affidavit of means, and should reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

The case was adjourned until March 1.
