Police apprehend suspected kidnapper, victim rescued in Yobe

The Yobe State Police Command has successfully cracked down on a kidnapping syndicate, arresting the prime suspect, 43-year-old Yusuf Ali, from the 50 Housing Estate in Damaturu.

A crime bulletin from the Command’s PPRO, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, made available to journalists on Friday, stated, “On October 14, 2024, at about 14:15 hrs, Mallam Hassan reported to the State Intelligence Department (SID) that his son, Abdullahi Hassan, had gone missing after school hours on October 13, 2024, at 17:15 hrs.”

The bulletin further noted that despite all efforts to locate him, Abdullahi’s whereabouts remained unknown until the abductor demanded a ransom of N1.5 million for his release via a mobile phone call.

The PPRO added that detectives swiftly coordinated intelligence-led operations, tracing the victim to a secured room in the Kara Area of Darazo, Bauchi State, where the prime suspect was apprehended while holding the victim hostage.

The Commissioner of Police, Garba Ahmed, reiterated the Command’s commitment to combating crime and praised personnel for their efforts in ensuring the successful rescue of the victim and the arrest of the suspected kidnapper.

He also provided a security tip to members of the general public, advising that to safeguard children against criminal elements after school, they should be educated on basic safety protocols.

Children should be taught to identify trusted adults, report suspicious activities, avoid walking alone, and be encouraged to use the buddy system. They should also be educated to stay in well-lit areas, avoid isolated or dark places, never accept gifts or rides from strangers, and be aware of potential lures. Furthermore, they should report suspicious activities or individuals and be encouraged to engage in open communication.

Members of the public in Yobe State were advised to contact 08065682446 for more information or inquiries in order to stay informed and safe.
