Poker – How to Win SnG Tournaments

Poker is among the most played card games in the world. Historical sources credit its origin to a Persian game called “As Nas.” Still, the most popular version today, Texas Hold ’em, was born in the United States in the 19th century. If you play poker on online platforms, you’ve probably tried, or come across, SnG or Sit and Go tournaments.

SnG tournaments are widely popular in online casinos, as it’s a quick and straightforward kind of tournament where the last player standing wins the pot. However, you can use different strategies to increase your chances and protect your bankroll.

The Format

SnG tournaments are great because they don’t need many players to happen. Most games have between six and nine participants. You can also find tables for three and heads-up tables where there’s only one more player. You can find Sit and Go tournaments on any online cazino offering poker.

Sit and Stay

Unlike multi-table tournaments (MTTs), these are fast-paced tournaments, though prizes also tend to be smaller. SnG is perfect for those who want all the thrill of a tournament without spending hours at the table. Learn about the different moments of a Sit and Go event and how to play at each of them.

The Beginning

Texas Hold ’em is a game with 133,784,560 possible combinations, although only a tiny fraction can be considered strong. In the early stage, everyone is still on the table, which means more players can have a premium hand or at least a hand better than yours. That’s why it’s not advisable to bet high at this point. Also, that’s why you shouldn’t believe in that pair of fours you receive unless there’s a three-of-a-kind on the table, at least.

The Middle Game

You’ll notice you’re entering the mid-game when the blinds get higher, and a few bad players were already weeded out. Pots are getting bigger, but they must also bet boldly to stay in the game. So, a miscalculation at this point can ruin your chances of making it through to the final stage. When your bankroll gets below 15x the blind, it’s time to get aggressive and challenge your opponents.

The Endgame

The endgame is when there are only three players on the table. Notice that the gameplay gets more aggressive toward the end. The player with the smaller bankroll should go ballistic on every hand to scare opponents away and “buy” a few pots. Because blinds are very high now, the pot is sweet, even when no one bets more than the blind.

Heads Up

The final stage has only two players standing: the heads up. Heads up is a pretty even game, as both players have great chances of having nothing at hand. Here, that low pair of fours is worth gold, even when nothing is on the table.

Excelling at poker requires a sharp sense of opportunity, strategy, and high doses of cold blood. Additionally, a player must know what to do at different game moments. It means recognising those moments and keeping a sense of direction that will take you from the first to the last round. Practise your skills on free platforms before heading to real money games, where you’ll probably find much tougher opponents.
