Jigawa state government has commenced the implementation of Basic Health Provision Fund service at 279 political wards for poor and vulnerable groups in the state.
This was disclosed by the State’s acting Commissioner and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Salisu Mu`azu stated this at a press briefing to mark the 2021 Pneumonia Day organized by the Save the Children International (SCI) said: “free medical services would be given to children below five years, pregnant women and people with disability in the 279 health facilities”.
According to him, the state government provided one primary health centre in each political ward and recruitment of midwives as part of efforts to reduce maternal mortality in the state.
Dr. Salisu Mu`azu explained that the government is spending 75 million naira monthly welfare package on the maternal newborn child services, while the development partners provided training and donation of equipment to reduce the effect of pneumonia in the state.
Also speaking the chief of party inspiring project indices, Save the Children Intervention, Dr. Adamu Isah commended the state government for adopting a national pneumonia control strategy.
Dr Adamu Isah said based on the commitment of the state government, the inspiring project of Save the Children will extend its services to the second phase in due course.
