Plumber docked for alleged break-in, stealing

A 27-year-old Plumber, Azeez Muhammed, on Monday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrate’s  Court for allegedly breaking into a school to steal laptops and a speaker.

Muhammed, who resides at Mushin, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of damage and stealing.

The defendant, however, denied committing the offences.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Aondohemba Koti told the court that the defendant committed the offences on April 19 at Mushin, Lagos.

Koti said that the defendant scaled the fence to gain entrance into Euba Secondary School.

He said that Muhammed damaged the principal’s office to steal the items, the value of which was yet unknown.

“The defendant unlawfully damaged the principal office’s door to steal.

“The value of the stolen items are yet to be ascertained,” Koti said.

According to the prosecutor, the tricycle the defendant parked in front of the school to cart away the items stolen was traced, and he was arrested.

Koti said that the offences violated Sections 287 and 350 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mr M.O Tanimola, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N 80,000, with two sureties in like sum.

Tanimola said that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates three years imprisonment for stealing, while section 350 prescribes two years for damage.

The case was adjourned until May 13 for mention.
