Plateau State Police Command has arrested two undergraduate students of the University of Jos for a cult-related offense and for being in the procession of dangerous weapons, while one Kumbol Kunfa is equally in the police net for beating his father to death.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Bartholomew Onyeka, who disclosed this at a press briefing in Jos on Wednesday, said the two students were apprehended by a patrol team led by the DPO, CSP Pam I. Dauda, during a raid at their hideouts at Farin Gada and Angwan Jarawa.
He pointed out that in the course of the raid, one Fortune Irabor, 22 years old, and one Lucky Igba, 24 years old, both students of the University of Jos (UNIJOS) residing at Dogon Parlor Street in Angwan Jarawa, were arrested.
“The suspects were found to have one Axe, one Back mask, and one Black beret. After profiling and interrogation, one of the suspects, Lucky Igba ‘m, confessed that the recovered cultist materials belonged to him. The investigation is still on, and further developments will be communicated to you in due course,” he revealed.
CP Onyeka further disclosed that one Kumbol Kunfa of Nwur village in Langtang North local government area of the state beat his father Kunfa Gotip to death for being scolded for refusing to follow him to the farm.
“One Kunfa Gotip of Nwur village in Langtang North LGA of Plateau State met his son, one Kumbol Kunfa, in the house of a neighbor roasting a dead Dog and told him to follow him to the farm, but the son refused to follow him.
“That Kunfa Gotip, the father, used a stick to beat Kumbol Kunfa on the leg. Provoked, his son went and carried a cutlass and inflicted several deep cuts on his father’s head and other parts of the body, leaving him lifeless. The victim was rushed to the hospital, and while receiving medical attention, the doctor on duty confirmed that he was dead. On receiving the information, detectives swung into action, arrested the suspect, and recovered the exhibit, one cutlass.
Also, the Command arrested one John Thomas of PW Jos, Stephen Paulinus, a Lance Corporal of the Nigerian Army attached to 130 Battalion Baga, Borno State, and one Achem Akowe of Aradagun Badagry, Lagos State, who were robbed of their belongings and later kidnapped at the Villa junction between NMDC and the cemetery opposite Sector 1 Headquarters, Jos, by robbers armed with Locally made pistols and other dangerous weapons.
The Commissioner of Police mentioned that the kidnappers, while driving towards Mista Ali, sighted a Police Stop-and-Search checking point mounted by the Jengre Division Patrol Team, adding that they suddenly made a U-Turn and drove toward Gurum Road.
“The policemen and vigilante members leaped and chased the suspicious vehicle. Sensing danger, the culprits abandoned the vehicle and escaped into the bushes.
“As a result, all three victims were rescued unhurt, while efforts are being intensified to arrest the fleeing suspects. Further developments will be communicated to you in due course”.
