Plateau LG election falls short of PLASIEC’s transparency promise — APC chairman

Published by

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly criticized the recently concluded local government elections in Plateau State, describing them as a sham and an embarrassment.

The elections saw the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) win all 17 local government chairmanship seats, with APC winning 14 councillor positions, PDP securing 285, NNPP 1, and YPP 4.

Speaking to the press on Saturday, the APC State Chairman, Hon. Rufus Bature, rejected the results and accused the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) of grossly violating election procedures.

He also criticized Governor Caleb Mutfwang for swearing in the PDP candidates as chairmen, labeling it an “imposition.”

Bature pointed out several issues, including the skewed distribution of sensitive materials, such as ballot papers, which were allegedly insufficient in APC strongholds.

He further claimed that malfunctioning voting machines were strategically used to disenfranchise voters and that elections never took place in some areas, while in others, ballot stuffing was reported.

The APC plans to challenge the election results at the Local Government Election Petition Tribunal, vowing to use all available channels to seek redress. Despite the situation, Bature urged APC supporters to remain calm and peaceful.
