Plateau APC elders call for synergy among MDAs, stakeholders to tackle insecurity

The Chairman of the Plateau State APC Elders Advisory Council, Ambassador Danladi Wuyep, has stated that the spate of killings by suspected killer herdsmen persisted due to a lack of unity among diverse ethnic groups in the state and called for synergy among development associations to tackle the security challenges.

Wuyep, who frowned at the way the pathetic issue is being treated in isolation, stated that all indigenous ethnic groups in the state need to act as an entity and be prepared to work together and share information relating to the subsequent attacks.

“Everyone should be his brother’s keeper; these attackers don’t come from the blues; they passed through from one community to another before they arrived at their target community. They are not ghosts; why is it difficult for them to alert their neighboring community?

“All hands must be on deck to address the insecurity. It is not Berom or Maghavul’s issue alone; whatever affects one local government affects every other part of the state. We cannot address the issue by being indifferent to the plight of our brother, even though we are affected,” he said.

Wuyep in an interview advised the Governor Muftwang-led administration to, as a matter of urgency, convene a conference that will involve all the development associations and major stakeholders in the state to find a lasting solution to the lingering problem.

According to him, the killings need a thorough discussion by the stakeholders, irrespective of party affiliation, and a common stand over the ugly development, adding that the collaborators of the undesirable elements must be fished out.

He said, ” Apart from this, there are some communities that harbor these criminal elements; why are we pretending? We should expose such communities and impress it on the security agencies to take appropriate action. The lackadaisical posture of some of our communities is also a source of worry.”
