Plateau APC accepts rerun in interest of peace

ALL Progressives Congress in Plateau State has stated that it chose to subject itself to the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission which declared the governorship election inconclusive even when it had outrightly won in the interest of peace and for the sake of legitimising democratic process of free and fair election.

Addressing newsmen in Jos, the Coordinator, Plateau APC Youth for Good Governance Mr Dominion Shaiwan said the party is fully prepared for the rerun despite the fact that it is leading by wide margin adding that it accepted decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission for rerun in some parts of the state for the sake of promoting peace on the Plateau.

The group called on all peace loving people of Plateau State particularly members of the APC and the general public who for their desire for peace voted for the APC to continue to remain calm and to come out en masse during the rescheduled supplementary elections billed for Saturday, 23rd March, 2019 in the affected Local Government Areas.

It enjoined them not be deterred by the decision of the INEC as victory can only be delayed and can never be denied and commended their resilience and patience even when the obvious outcome of the peacefully conducted election in the State was curiously declared inconclusive.

“As a peace-loving political Party and a responsible Government in power, the APC chose to subject itself to the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission who declared the election as inconclusive even when we knew that we had outrightly won with a wide margin. This we did in good faith in the interest of peace knowing the state of insecurity we are coming from and for the sake of legitimizing the democratic process of a free and fair election.

” After all, this election to us is not a do or die affair for we believe that no politician’s ambition is worth the life of a single voter. We have also in the interest of peace restrained our supporters from engaging in provocative celebrations of their hard earned victory and have rather encouraged them to be magnanimous in victory for it is our belief that when we join our hands together can do better for Plateau.”

It added that in spite of all the magnanimity and sacrifice in the interest of peace which APC demonstrated before, during and after the elections, there are sinister and despicable plans by the PDP to disrupt the hard-earned peace in the State.

“It is sad that having been rejected by the people at the polls and having failed in their plans to whip up ethno-religious sentiments through sponsored pamphleteering propaganda that had the propensity to have thrown us back to the dark old days, they are again planning to sponsor a so-called mega demonstration on or after Monday 18th March, 2019 with a view to creating a crisis that would snowball into disrupting the supplementary election” said the group.
