Pirates kidnap 2 policemen, boatman in Rivers

Sea pirates have abducted two police sergeants and a boat riders in the waters of Andoni Local Government Area, Rivers State.

DSP Nnamdi Omoni, Spokesman for Rivers state Police Command, confirmed Tuesday that the police were yet to establish whereabouts of the victims.

The information has it that the abducted persons were returning to Port Harcourt at dawn yesterday when the pirates captured them.

PPRO Omoni said, “It is a worrisome development, but manhunt has already been staged against the criminals. I can assure the public that the victims will be released unhurt in no time.”

A community source had narrated that, “Two police officers and a boat driver have been kidnapped on Andoni River this (Tuesday) morning.

“The boat filled with passengers was heading towards Port Harcourt when the pirates ambushed them on the sea, forcing other passengers out before taking away two police officers on board and the boat driver to an unknown destination.”
