Pioneering cybersecurity, shaping future of network security – Michael Akinsanya

Michael Akinsanya is a name gaining recognition in the fields of cybersecurity and network engineering. As an Advanced Services Engineer at Fortinet, he is contributing to the national interests of the United States by designing secure and resilient networks that combat emerging cyber threats.

Over the last six years, Michael has built a career marked by technical excellence and an unwavering commitment to innovation. His work in cybersecurity and telecoms addresses some of the most pressing challenges in today’s digital age, including data privacy, IoT security, and advanced network solutions.

“For me, cybersecurity goes beyond protecting data. It’s about ensuring trust in the systems we use every day,” Michael said. “I’m motivated by the opportunity to make a tangible difference in people’s lives by securing critical infrastructures and driving innovation.”

Michael’s journey to becoming a trailblazer in cybersecurity started with a strong academic foundation. He holds a Master of Science degree in Computing from Wichita State University, where he graduated with a stellar GPA. During his time there, he earned multiple prestigious awards, including the Lee R. Riley Distinguished Graduate Assistantship Award and the Garvey International Center Scholarship.

“I’ve always believed in the power of education to open doors and create opportunities,” he said. “Studying in the U.S. allowed me to deepen my expertise and collaborate with some of the brightest minds in the field.”

Currently based in Texas, Michael’s role at Fortinet involves providing advanced cybersecurity solutions to businesses and government entities. His technical skills span a wide range of areas, including firewalls, SD-WAN, Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), and network security protocols.

Before joining Fortinet, Michael gained hands-on experience as a Technical Support Engineer in Lagos, Nigeria, and as a Network Support Engineer Intern at Vodacom Business. These early roles prepared him for the complexities of cybersecurity on a global scale.

His dedication to the field has also led to significant research contributions. His publications, such as “Security Paradigms for IoT in Telecom Networks” and “The Evolution of Cyber Resilience Frameworks in Network Security,” provide insights into solving some of the industry’s toughest challenges.

“My research is focused on creating practical solutions that not only solve today’s problems but also anticipate future risks,” he explained. “Cyber threats are constantly evolving, and staying ahead requires both technical expertise and innovative thinking.”

Michael’s contributions extend beyond his professional roles. As a recipient of multiple accolades and a member of esteemed organizations like the National Society of Black Engineers, he is a role model for young professionals in technology.

“My advice to anyone entering this field is to stay curious and adaptable,” Michael said. “The world of technology is always changing, and those who embrace learning will thrive.”

Michael, with a proven track record, groundbreaking research, and a passion for cybersecurity, is not just shaping the future of network security—he’s securing it.
