Published by

The 1991 set of the Polytechnic High School, Ijokodo (PHSI), Ibadan in Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State, has renovated and handed over a block of six classrooms with chairs and tables worth several millions of naira to the authority of the school, with a view to make the school one of the best in the country.

The handing over ceremony took place at the school premises in Ijokodo, Ibadan, on Friday.

Speaking, the coordinator of the set, Mr Bolaji Omotayo-Johnson, thanked the school authorities and the Oyo State Ministry of Education for allowing them to make positive contribution to the school that empowered them with quality education.

The National President of the PHSI-Old Students Association (PHSI-OSA), Mr Olufemi Ilesanmi, explained that the state of buildings in the school was worrisome, adding that old students are ready to tax one another to bring back the lost glory of the school.

Also speaking, Commissioner for Education, Professor Adeniyi Olowofela, who was represented by a Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Mrs M.T. Omotosho, lauded the initiator of the project for deeming it fit to give back to the school that produced them.

He, however, urged old students association in various schools across the state, private organisations, non-government organisations and other stakeholders to join hands with the government in its quest to partner with private sectors to reposition the state educational system.

In his remarks, the principal of the school, Mr Ayo Ojelabi, commended the old students for the gesture.

He added that: “What you have done for your alma mater really amazed me. You promised us by going the extra mile to get what we want for  the  school. I pray that God in His infinite mercies will continue to enrich you abundantly.”

Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, the school’s Senior Boy, Leonard Emmanuel, appreciated the gesture and promised to guard the  classrooms against vandalism.

He, however, called on the PHSI-OSA not to rest on their oars, saying “as Oliver Twist, who always ask for more, we still need more of your presence in the school.”
