PHOTOS: Truck conveying 13 from Yobe intercepted in Delta

Published by

A truck conveying 13 persons from Yobe State was, on Monday, intercepted at the Ologbo, boundary between Delta and Edo states.

The truck was intercepted by the Delta State COVID-19 Task Force led by security aide to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Mr Ezekiel Daniel.

The task force team is saddled with the responsibility of enforcing the interstate lockdown to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 virus.

Delta State has, so far, recorded 17 cases with three deaths, three discharged and 12 patients still receiving treatment at the various isolation centres.

After the interception, the truck, said to.be conveying only the 13 persons without goods, was turned back.

Daniel, who disclosed the development to journalists, said the violators who were coming from Yobe had intended to join their colleagues whom they said had gone ahead of them with some cattle.

He decried the development, saying it is undermining the efforts of the state government to discourage the transmission of the pandemic in the state, wondering how they crossed several states boundaries before getting to the point it was intercepted.

“They lied that they were coming to take care of their cows just to come into the state.

“Now some political leaders are allowing potential carriers of COVID-19 from their region to go to other parts of the country. It is so unfortunate.”
