The Nigerian movie industry was on Wednesday thrown into mourning following the sudden death of one of the fastest-growing Nollywood actors and filmmakers, John Paul Odonwodo, popularly known as Junior Pope.
Tribune Online reports on Wednesday that the actor, alongside three others died when a boat conveying them from movie location capsized on Anam River in Anambra State.
Meanwhile, the National President of the Action Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Emeka Rollas, who earlier revealed that the actor survived the incident, later confirmed the death of Junior Pope, stating that “My first post was out of excitement when we noticed his tingling fingers.”
According to the President, one Mr Friday’s corpse has been identified while three other corpses were yet to be found.
But a movie producer, Stanley Nwoke, who shared the identities of the crew in a post via his Instagram handle: @stanley_ontop, captioned one of his posts as “Crew lives matter”.
Stanley, while revealing the name of crew members who died alongside Junior Pope in the boat mishap, however, called for the arrest of the movie producer and boat driver for failing to provide life jackets.
Tribune Online gathered that crew members involved in the boat mishap include a makeup artist, identified as Abigail Fredrick and a sound engineer.
“Arrest the producer…Arrest the driver
Nollywood producers are worst part of the producers in the entertainment. They like managing funds on cast and crew. If you complain too much on set you will be blacklisted immediately. Nollywood no love for one another especially Asabawood.
“Rest in Peace. Jnr Pope, Friday, Precious, Abigail.”
“We must deny these groups the undue publicity they crave,” the minister said.
