The Lagos State government, on Saturday, February 28, took its campaign to restore the beauty of the state to the Obalende bridge where it dislodged various illegal bus parks, garages, impounding 38 vehicles and arresting 42 people including traders.

The Special Committee on Clean-Up of Ikoyi and Victoria Island said in a statement on Sunday, March 1, that it dislodged those who converted the green areas and beneath Obalende bridge to bus parks.

Speaking on the exercise, Director of Operations and leader of the enforcement team, Mr Ayo Williams, said that operatives also eased traffic, as several commercial vehicles who parked on Obalende Road had their vehicles towed away under supervision by LASTMA.

Williams said the team also sealed off buildings used as brothels and arrested many commercial sex workers who reside in the area, including other individuals of questionable identity.

He added that the operation involving all the enforcement teams visited Odoo Street, Ojo Street, Obalende Road, Federal Secretariat Road and Keffi Street where illegal structures were dismantled.

The Director disclosed that during the operations, which lasted several hours, a total of 42 people were arrested for various environmental offences and 38 vehicles of different types impounded, revealing that those arrested were charged and immediately prosecuted at the Lagos State Special Offences Mobile Court.
