Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has sworn in the newly elected chairmen and vice chairmen for the 31 local government areas.
He urged them to prioritise the welfare of the people, as 30 were elected under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Of the 31 chairmen, one represents the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Five of the newly sworn-in chairmen are women, while 26 of the vice chairmanship positions are also held by women.

During the swearing-in ceremony on October 7, 2024, Governor Eno praised the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) for conducting free and fair elections.
He emphasised that the new chairmen are stepping into office during a period of economic challenges, and it is their responsibility to improve the situation for their communities.
Governor Eno also reminded the chairmen to foster peace and unity at the grassroots level, in line with his administration’s Arise Agenda, which focuses on improving the welfare of the people.
The new chairmen are expected to swear in the elected Ward councillors in their respective local government areas.
