Philanthropist Akande bags peace, humanitarian service award

In recognition of his contributions towards the promotion of peace and humanitarian services, renowned philanthropist and educator Dr Kazeem Akande has bagged an award from the Rotary Club of Ibadan.

Akande was awarded on Thursday evening at the awards ceremony of the Rotary Club of Ibadan. The club leadership noted that this honour bestowed on him was due to his commitment towards the promotion of peace and the championing of humanitarian services in the country.

The event took place at the Rotary Clubhouse in Iyaganku, Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, during the Rotary Club of Ibadan Gala night and award.

Other awardees at the event include former deputy governor of Oyo state, Gbolarumi Hazeem, Chairman, Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission, Isiaka Olagunju, Registrar, Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, TRCN, Professor Josiah Ajiboye, Director General Abuja and Lagos Liason office, Hon. Ezekiel Temitope Oladimeji, President, Ohaneze Ndigbo, Oyo state chapter, Chief Ndubiusi Okorie, Past President Rotary Club of Ibadan- Challenge and founder Akande Tunde Movement, ATM, Dr Kazeem Akande, Past President, Rotary Club of Ibadan Jericho- Metro, Samuel Kolawole Chief Executive Officer, Omotayo Charity Foundation, Olapeju Agunbiade, Chief Executive Officer, Atinutobi Foundation, Kikelomo Idowu and Past Assistant Governor, Rotary Club of Ibadan, Isaac Ajibike among others.

Speaking with the Nigerian Tribune, Akande expressed his appreciation for the recognition and pledged to give more support to the promotion of peace in society.

Akande was joined by friends and well-wishers to celebrate this award. They include the League of Past Presidents of the Rotary Club of Ibadan-Challenge, Rotn Mujidat Rafiu, Rotn Kunle Awotiku, Rotn Sheu Tijani, Rotn Akande Yusuf, Past Rotaract District Representatives, Olanrewaju Olowu and Gbolahan OpeyemiOlaleye, Rotn Farayola Hammed, Past Rotaract President The Polytechnic of Ibadan, Odufuwa Omotoke Anita, Past Rotaract President Ring-Road Alabi Grace, Com. Tunde Adeoye, Rotn Akande Jamiu, and other members of the Rotary Club of Ibadan-Challenge.

Also speaking with the Nigerian Tribune, the President of the Rotary Club of Ibadan, Rotarian Kolawole Shittu, noted that the award is held in recognition of the awardees’ contribution to society.

Shittu further explained that the award is reserved for people who have helped provide humanitarian services to people in their respective communities.

He described Akande as a person who has played vital roles in the promotion of peace in the club’s district and the community as a whole. Rotn Shittu noted that Akande is one of the district leaders of the Rotary club and had performed very well in peace resolution in the Rotary year.

Shittu further added that Akande was awarded in recognition of his selfless commitment to rendering humanitarian services and uplifting the standard of living of people in his community, adding that Akande has been appointed to lead the Rotary Peace Committee for Rotary District 9125 for the 2024–25 Rotary year in recognition of his excellent performance.

The club’s president advised the awardees not to relent in their contributions to humanity and to continue to do their best to support Rotary to build better communities.

He stated that the award is categorised into five categories, including the Excellent Service Award, Exemplary Award, Humanitarian Service Award, Meritorious Service Award, and Distinguished Service Award.
