Peter Obi urges Obiora-Oguno to sustain zeal for better Nigeria

Professor Azubike Onuora-Oguno, a distinguished expert in International Human Rights Law, has delivered his inaugural lecture at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, marking a notable achievement in his academic career. The lecture, held on Thursday at the University’s auditorium, was attended by a host of dignitaries, academics, and students.

In his goodwill message, Mr. Peter Obi extended his congratulations to Professor Onuora-Oguno, describing the milestone as a “personal triumph” and a “source of immense pride” for both his community and the nation. Obi lauded Onuora-Oguno’s dedication to education and human rights, notably highlighting his humanitarian efforts during the 2012 flood disaster in Mbamili.

The inaugural lecture, titled “Disorder in Order in the Economics and Social Rights Jurisprudence in Nigeria,” was the 264th in the University’s history. It examined the rights of Nigerians, including the right to education for underprivileged communities, reflecting Obi’s values of advancing Nigeria through knowledge, compassion, and integrity.

Although Mr. Obi could not attend the lecture in person, he was represented by Dr. Boniface Orji, who delivered Obi’s sentiments of goodwill to Professor Onuora-Oguno.

This inaugural lecture represents a significant milestone for Onuora-Oguno, who is celebrated as the first Professor of Law from Mbamili and Anambra West Local Government Area, as well as the first Igbo Professor of Law at the University of Ilorin. Obi encouraged him to maintain his commitment to advancing Nigeria’s development.

The goodwill message was issued in a statement signed by Obi’s Media Aide, Dr. Valentine Obiehayam, and made available to journalists in Awka, Anambra State.
