Published by

In a generous gesture, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, visited the College of Nursing Sciences at St. Joseph Hospital in Adazi-Nnukwu, Anambra State, where he donated N10 million to support the training of more nurses.

Announcing the donation via a statement on his X handle on Tuesday, Obi emphasised the importance of investing in critical sectors that drive societal progress.

“In continuation of my commitment to contributing to building a better society through investments in critical areas of human development, I visited the College of Nursing Sciences, St. Joseph Hospital Adazi-Nnukwu, and gave them my support of N10 million, for the training of more nurses,” he stated.

Highlighting the significance of the college, Obi noted, “The college, which is one of the oldest, has over the decades produced qualified nurses and midwives, and it has contributed immeasurably to the growth of our health sector and the development of our human infrastructure.”

He reiterated his long-standing advocacy for substantial investments in education and health, particularly in training healthcare workers.

Obi also pointed to global concerns about the impending shortage of healthcare workers, especially nurses.

“Different health organisations have continued to warn about the impending shortage of healthcare workers, especially nurses, on the global level.

“By investing in their training, we will be able to produce enough to meet our needs and contribute in managing the global shortage,” he explained.
