A 54-year old farmer from Barikin Ladi Local Government area of Jos, Plateau State, Dalyop Dachung has said challenges of pest and diseases, low yields, inability to access loans and farmer-herder challenges which resulted in poor harvest, pushed him into sales of agrochemicals.
Dachung who said he has been farming since he was a child is currently into various forms of agronomic activities such as sales of agrochemical and agricultural products.
Explaining how he ventured into the business, Dachung said he came across bayer product while searching online, having heard about it from the Maize Farmers Association sometime last year, he decided to use decies, the insecticide and herbicides, lagon pre-emergence for maize and the topstar pre-emergence for his rice farming.and see result.
When his yields scaled up, people started asking what he had used on his crops, he said, “I used bayer products and even showed it to them”.
“Over the years, I had a lot of challenges which includes, pest and diseases, low yields, inability to access loans and farmer-herder challenges which resulted in low harvest.
“These challenges did not allow me to expand his farm like I always wanted.
“Currently, I have planted his rice and maize and will start planting Irish potatoes in July”, he said.
“We must deny these groups the undue publicity they crave,” the minister said.
