Percentage payment: We have no reason in Nasarawa not to pay full salary ― Damishi

FORMER Deputy Governor of Nasarawa state, Mr. Luka Barau Damishi, said that he sees no reason why the state government would not pay the salary of workers in full, considering the mega subversion being received from Federal.

Damishi, made the statement at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secretariat in Lafia, while submitting his intent letter to aspire for governorship position to the party’s chairman.

Expressing that he was in the plan that developed an idea which was adopted by the present government to be able to pay salary in full without borrowing even with the new minimum wage, saying that there is enough fund for government to sustain that plan to this day.

He added, “I can authoritatively say that we have no reason in Nasarawa state not to pay salary in full percentage.

“Quote me anywhere I will defend myself because the subversion that is coming to the state government today fluctuate reasonably above the salary status of this state.

“And if you take that percentage which might just be 40% of what is coming to Nasarawa state. I believe the salary of workers in Nasarawa at most is not more than 2.7 billion with the minimum wage.

“Accepting the gross that the salary is unto that amount, and if the subversion which I know of recent that came to Nasarawa state was about 8 billion.

“So, take 2 billion plus out of it, you would pay full salary to workers, and the importance of doing this is for all of us here that don’t have jobs, because those workers who are receiving pay are either our brothers, uncles and fathers and that is their major source of earning in the state.

“If you can say, somebody that is collecting N200, 000 as salary and now you are giving him N35, 000 and some who were collecting N100,000 and you give N16,000, what explanation that somebody who is humanly and morally sound would give? I think and I may be wrong, but I think that is evil. You end to live but you don’t want others to also live,” he explained.

The former Deputy governor further stated that the state belongs to all and with this verse knowledge he is given to them for him to adjust the clock if given the mandate, adding that “fairness, justice, equity and fair distribution of wealth is my watchwords.

While responding to the aspirant, Francis Orogu, PDP chairman appreciated him for revealing what he perceived for long before now and would continue to speak until the government resolved to pay salary full.

According to him, all the five aspirants in the party are better than 18 gubernatorial aspirants of the APC, urging Damishi Luka to put the interest of the party first above anything.
