Pensioners day: NUP commends Sokoto gov for prompt payment of pension

The Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP), Sokoto state chapter has sent a thank you message to the Governor of Sokoto State, Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal for the prompt payment of its members in the state.

The state secretary of the union, Alhaji Umar Tambuwal, disclosed this in his address while speaking with journalists at the state secretariat of Nigerian Union of Journalists in Sokoto on Wednesday.

The Secretary who was speaking as part of the activities marking this year of Nigerian Pensioners day in Sokoto.

He disclosed that the state union is ready to celebrate the Governor of Sokoto with a special award in recognition of his achievement especially on pensioners in the state.

They commend the Governor for not only appointed a Commissioner in charge of Pensioners in the state but also a governing board member, calling of the governor to include members of the union in the board to checkmate activities of the ministry.

Also speaking, the national vice president chairman of NUP, North-West zone, Alhaji Sani Muhammad, who read the statement of the National President of the union, Dr Abel. Afolayan, also commended the Governor for his commissioned arrangement to the welfare of the state pensioners.

While reading the address of the president termed, “Nigerians Union of Pensioners, Pains and Gains; Minimising and sustaining the gains”.

He called on the federal government to take the issue of Pensioners more serious by responding to their plight on time.

According to the statement, “Nigerian pensioners both defined benefit and contributory pensioners, have passed through thick and thin in the process of payment of retirement benefits.

“There is no doubt that we have experienced untold hardship, pains and tears while waiting endlessly to collect our pension.

“The leadership of the union is more than determined to end the pains, tears and unbearable sufferings arising from the payment of our legitimate entitlements at the federal and state levels.

“It is all a universally accepted fact that there can be no gains without pains, so our theme for this year is about pains and gains way and means of reducing the pains and gains way and means of reducing the pains and increasing the gains” he added.
