Pensioners crave meaningful livelihood in Kwara

PENSIONERS in Kwara State, under the aegis of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, have called on the state government to meet their demands of payment of outstanding gratuities and allowances to ensure meaningful living for them.

Speaking during a tour of the 16 local government areas of the state embarked upon by the chairman of the union, Alhaji Saidu Oladimeji, the pensioners lamented various situations of hardships being experienced by the retirees in the state.

The host retirees, who commended the NUP executive for the tour, called on their leaders to intensify efforts on calling the state government to meet all their demands on welfare.

The people said that the demand includes payment of 10-year gratuities, arrears of monthly pension, and implementation of 20 per cent harmonisation, among others.

Also speaking, the NUP chairman, Alhaji Saidu Oladimeji, said that the purpose of the sensitisation tour was to create peace and mutual understanding among the federal, state and local government retirees in the state, adding that identifies misunderstanding were settled during the tour.

Alhaji Oladimeji, who said that the state government was aware of their demands, added that it is working to meet those demands soonest.

The NUP chairman also charged the federal government retirees in the state to always inform the state secretariat of any of their demands met by the federal government.

He mentioned some of his achievements as settlement of misunderstanding among members in the 16 local government areas and introduction of medical allowance to staff, among others.
