Peace returns to Plateau

Published by

From all indications relative peace has returned to all the crises-ridden parts of Plateau State, while waring communities had since sheath their swords and embraced peace for the progress and development of their communities.

In the past one and half years, there is no reported cases of crisis in the once   troubled Barakin-Ladi, Riyom,  Jos South and Jos North  local government areas of the state, while farmers who deserted their farms for fear of being attacked have since returned to their farms.

The Special Adviser Media to the State Governor, Mr. Daniel Manjang, who said both the natives and Fulani herdsmen, who were often at loggerheads had embraced peace and agreed to live in peace with one another, attributed the prevailing peace to the new approach which Governor Simon Lalong adopted in taming the ugly incidents.

According to him, on assumption of office, the administration established Peace Building Bureau Agency, the first of its kind in Nigeria and embarked on dialogue with various waring communities in the state, especially those in crisis prone local government areas adding that crises ridden parts were also effectively monitored by the law enforcement agencies.

Said: “This administration is not willing to play politics with the lives of  human beings, that was why peace initiatives were put in place. The government embarked on vigorous campaign against violence, set up Peace Building Bureau Agency. He also promote dialogue between the natives and various ethnic groups in the state. To the glory of God, there is relative peace on the Plateau today”

He added that security agencies and traditional rulers are not resting in ensuring that  peace reigns in their respective domains adding that Peace Building Bureau Agency on its part had been organising series of seminars and workshops to promote peace in the state.

To consolidate on  the achieved peace, Commander of the Special Task Force in charge of security in Plateau and some parts of Bauchi state,  Major General Rogers Nicholas, recently visited both religious and major traditional rulers in the state.
