The Zamfara State Government has inaugurated 46-member State Early Warning, Early Response (EWER) team as part of its commitment to promote peace building and conflicts prevention in the state.
The set up of the was supported by Voluntary Aid Initiative (VAI) in partnership with NEEM Foundation and KARUNA Center for Peace Building.
The State Commissioner of Justice and Attorney-General, Abdul’aziz Sani who performed the inauguration in Gusau described the establishment of the team as a welcome development.
Sani represented by the Director for Alternative Dispute Resolution, State Ministry of Justice, Musa Shuaibu said the team has 46 members with representatives from security agencies, traditional rulers and Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs).
“Other members of the team to include, farmers , herdsmen, CSOs, NGOs, media, religious organizations and other relevant stakeholders across the state.
“This is timely, considering the importance of peace and stability in the state.
“This is inline with the state government commitments under Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration to promote peace building, community dialogues and conflict prevention to ensure sustainable peace and stability among communities in the state.
“I am happy to inform that the present administration in the state under Gov Dauda Lawal is ever ready to partner with Local, National and International NGOs to promote peace and stability and general development of the state.
“On behalf of the state government, I want to commend the VAI, being supported by the Karuna Foundation for Peace Building as well as the NEEM Foundation for their contribution towards peace building programme in the state,” Sani said.
The Commissioner called on the team members to work for the interest of the state.
“You are trusted and selected for this great job, therefore you have to deliver your duties sincerely,” he noted.
Earlier, the Executive Director of the VAI, Musa Umar said the team is part of the activities of the project, “Protecting Our Communities Initiative Project in Nigeria
“The state EWER team to serve as a body to foster peace, stability and conflict resolution.
“Apart from the state team, we have similar committees at Six communities we are working under Maru and Bungudu Local Government Areas of the state.”
He commended state government and other stakeholders for their support which led to tremendous success to the project in the state.
“As I am speaking, over 1000 conflict has been resolved involving over 3000 parties through this project,” Musa explained.
