PDP wins 15 of 17 LGs in Plateau poll

Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) has declared the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) winner in 15 out of the 17 local government areas of the state, while the results of two council areas are still pending.

Declaring the results, the Chairman of PLASIEC, Hon Plangil Cishak, stated that the results of the Pankshin and Langtang North areas are still being awaited, adding that the PDP candidates were declared winners having complied with all legal requirements.

The Commission Chairman and two ad hoc staff of the Commission were held hostage for more than 24 hours in the Langtang South local government area of the state, adding that the results of the affected polling units were not accepted.

He equally added that there will be a rerun in a ward in Bassa local government, adding that the electorate in the area refused to vote when the materials arrived, adding there will also be a rerun in Qua pan local government area.

During the swearing-in ceremony, Governor Mutfwang urged the newly elected chairmen to prioritize the needs of their communities and foster an environment of trust between the government and the public.

He stressed that their success would depend on their ability to engage with constituents and ensure that local resources are managed effectively and transparently.

He called on the chairmen to collaborate with state and federal agencies to secure resources that would benefit their councils, ensuring that development projects align with the aspirations of the citizens they serve.
