PDP to question Buhari’s eligibility for elections at tribunal

As the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) gets ready to land its election petition against the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari in the February 23 presidential election, it emerged on Friday that the opposition party is set to reopen the President’s certificate saga at the tribunal.
Sources close to the party said that the legal team being set up by the PDP has also been asked to dust up the document relating to the President’s qualification for the election.
It was learnt that the party is not just looking at the outcome of the February 23 polls but also checking out all avenues by which it could outwit the President.
“One of the issues that the PDP is taking to the tribunal is the totality of the elections conducted on February 23. But the party is starting from the premises of you can’t place something on nothing. If the President’s qualification is an issue, it then means that he was not even qualified to contest the election in the first place.”
The source further said that while some local and international stakeholders are of the view that the PDP should not contest the outcome of the polls, a number of party leaders are also of the view that the party should contest the outcome of the elections.
The source said that while the legal team is packaging details from the field, no one should be in doubt about the resolve of the party to reignite the certificate saga.
