PDP to immortalise Anenih

Tony Anenih

NATIONAL chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, yesterday declared that the party would immortalise the late former Chairman Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Party, Chief Tony Anenih who passed on recently.

Secondus also revealed that the rebound enjoyed by the party was due to the advice and strategies are given to the Party by the late elder statesman during its trying period.

He disclosed this at the Abuja residence of the late politician when he led members of National Working Committee (NWC) of the Party to his family members a condolence visit over his demise.

The PDP chairman who described Anenih mentored a lot of leaders in the country today adding that the late political leader is not just an elder Statesman but “a fountain and wisdom who we run to get wisdom and advise.”

He added that Anenih’s name “cannot be erased from the historical books of Nigeria. When historians write about Nigeria all through the republics, Tony Anenih’s name will be there.”

According to him, “there are words to describe our great father and leader who among others founded the PDP. He worked tirelessly from 1999 to 2015, he worked hard to groom the PDP.”

He recalled how the Anenih located and set up the PDP presidential campaign office popularly called Legacy House, where he “did all the work to return Former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan.”

Secondus further disclosed that Anenih was instrumental to PDP’s rebound after its post-2015 crisis, stressing that he willingly gave the party leadership encouragement and strategy which led to the mass return of members into its fold.

According to him, “We applied all the strategy and advise and as you can see in the process governors came back to the party. National Assembly members all defected to the party. This was as a result of advise he gave and as children we took them and today PDP has become the party of choice for all Nigerians.

“We had wished that God can spare him to enjoy the fruits of his labour, not by any other means but to see the party return to power. We will never forget all the works of Anenih to the PDP.”

He assured the family that the party would always be with them, saying they want to be a part of the planning of the burial.

Said he, “He has given so much to the party. We want to participate fully at this point in time. The governors will also do their part and we will give him a befitting burial.”

Responding to Anenih’s son, Tony, who received the delegation thanked the party leadership, noting that their father was a dedicated party man.
