PDP South-South zonal secretary, Turnah, honours CSS Kolo students for shining in Bayelsa debate competition

The Zonal Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) South-South Zone, Barr. Alabh George Turnah, MON, has celebrated the students of Community Secondary School (CSS) Kolo for their exceptional performance in the recently concluded Bayelsa State Inter-School Debate Competition.

The students who secured third place in the prestigious competition were honoured at a civic reception organized by the Kolo Youth Movement (KYM) and sponsored by Barr. Turnah.

Addressing a distinguished audience comprising community leaders, educators, parents, and students at the school premises, Barr. Turnah commended the students for their dedication, intellectual prowess, and resilience.

He emphasized that their achievement was proof of the spirit of excellence and hard work that should be encouraged among young scholars.

“As I stand before you today, I am filled with immense pride and joy. Securing third place in a highly competitive state-wide debate is no small feat. Your success is an inspiration to your peers and the entire community. It demonstrates that with determination and perseverance, great accomplishments are within reach,” Turnah stated.

In recognition of their efforts, he announced a cash gift in varying sums for the students, their handlers, and the Principal of CSS Kolo. He expressed hope that the reward would serve as motivation for the students to strive for even greater heights.

Beyond the cash gifts, Turnah made a significant commitment to improving the learning environment at CSS Kolo by pledging to construct a modern toilet facility for the staff and students.

He noted that access to proper sanitation is essential for fostering a conducive academic atmosphere.

The PDP chieftain also acknowledged the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for its infrastructural interventions in Kolo, particularly the ongoing construction of a modern Corpers Lodge and staff quarters for heads of public schools.

He commended the leadership of the NDDC, particularly the Managing Director/CEO, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, for his unwavering commitment to educational and infrastructural development in the region.

Furthermore, Barr. Turnah extended his gratitude to the Bayelsa State Government, particularly the Ministry of Education, for organizing the debate competition.

He urged continued government investment in initiatives that empower young minds, shape future leaders, and enhance the intellectual capacity of students.

In a move to encourage sports and extracurricular activities, Turnah announced his full sponsorship of a new inter-house sports team to be named “George Turnah House.

“As part of my unwavering support for the school, I will ensure that CSS Kolo receives the necessary assistance, particularly in sports and recreational activities. The ‘George Turnah House’ will foster a spirit of camaraderie and excellence in sports, complementing the school’s academic achievements,” he added.

The event was marked by excitement and appreciation, with students, school authorities, and community members applauding Turnah’s generosity and commitment to youth development.

The Principal of CSS Kolo, on behalf of the students and staff, expressed gratitude to Barr. Turnah for his continued support, describing him as a pillar of progress in the community.
