PDP South-South declares Felix Omemu as zonal secretary

Published by

The South-South Zonal Executive of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed Chief Felix Omemu as the undisputed Secretary of the party in the South-South Zone.

This declaration comes less than seventy-two hours after a meeting in Benin, the Edo State capital, summoned by the National Vice Chairman (South-South) of the party, Chief Dan Orbih.

Recall that on Saturday, February 15, 2025, the media was awash with reports that the South-South Zonal Secretary of the PDP, Chief Felix Omemu, had been suspended, with the Legal Adviser, Barr. George Turnah, appointed to act in his place.

Reacting to the development, the South-South Zonal Publicity Secretary, Bishop Etim Effiong Ante, described the purported suspension of the Zonal Scribe as feeble, unjustifiable, and a powerless pronouncement that would not stand.

In an interview with newsmen in Yenagoa on Monday, Bishop Ante dismissed the meeting as a mere gathering, stating that it was unconstitutionally convened for the selfish interests of a few individuals within the party.

The Publicity Secretary reiterated that one of the factors that affected the party before and during last year’s Edo governorship election was the leadership tussle between the National Vice Chairman, Chief Dan Orbih, and the immediate past Edo State Governor, Dr. Godwin Obaseki. He added that Chief Orbih must be checked, as he has resurfaced with another agenda to disintegrate the PDP’s zonal executive.

He emphasized that, typically, a zonal committee meeting includes governors, key stakeholders, and elected officials. However, the Benin meeting lacked the presence of any governor or major party stakeholders.

Nonetheless, Bishop Etim Effiong Ante assured that the zonal structure of the party remains intact. He added that the South-South Zone of the party would soon make its position known, urging the public and party faithful not to lose sleep over the purported meeting, which he described as being orchestrated by a few dissenting voices.

He said, “As the mouthpiece of the zone, I can tell you that Chief Felix Omemu is not only the Secretary but also the authentic and recognized Secretary of the PDP. We will soon make our position clear, but the unsuspecting public should not be misled.”

“We are not supposed to engage with these fragments, but for now, I can assure you that our structure remains intact.”

“Furthermore, the purported meeting did not secure a two-thirds majority, as required by the PDP constitution. Anything other than that is a misnomer, rendering the so-called suspension null and void.”

On issues affecting the Peoples Democratic Party in general, the South-South Zonal Publicity Secretary assured that the party is growing stronger and working assiduously to resolve all lingering issues.

He concluded by stating that it has become evident that the Peoples Democratic Party is the only party capable of providing succor and development to Nigerians, based on available records and statistics.
