PDP slams APC over good governance, economy

Published by

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State on Sunday said the All Progressives Congress (APC) lacked the competence to enshrine good governance and economic development in the country.

The party said the developments in the almost two years administration of the APC had shown that it had demonstrated gross incompetence in governance at all levels, particularly in managing the economy.

A communique issued at the end of the Kogi west senatorial district stakeholders meeting of the PDP held in Kabba, Kabba/Bunu local government area of the state, said Nigerians were now wiser when it comes to choice of leadership.

The party in the communiqué signed by the zonal chairman, Taiwo Kola-Ojo, also lamented the suffering that civil servants and the entire people of the state were facing due to the screening of workers embarked upon by government since over one year.

It said that it was unfortunate that the workers whose data were used to secure a bailout fund for the state were not benefiting from the funds.

The communiqué read, the party expressed embarrassment at the unending screening that remains inconclusive in the state, noting that it was a cruel irony that civil servants whose data were used to secure bailout funds for the state have benefited the least from the proceeds.

Members therefore called on the APC led Government in the state to put an immediate end to the agony and the frustration of the affected civil servants in the State.

“The party regretted that Kogi State that had the reputation of prioritising education has now slid into unenviable pedestal, where tertiary institutions have remained shut for several months arising from poor attention to the Welfare of staff and students. Members requested the state Government to reverse this ugly situation, to avoid further destruction to the state’s educational record and legacy.

The stakeholders also condemned the recent defection of three of its members from the zone in the state house of assembly to the APC.

It however resolved to explore all legal and constitutional provisions to challenge the actions of the lawmaker, describing it as “unconstitutional and opportunistic “.

The Kogi west PDP also commended the efforts at resolving the leadership crisis rocking the party, noting that such move would help to reposition the party, based on sound strategies that have been developed to advance the party in the direction of inclusive growth.
