The Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic arty (PDP) is set to brief stakeholders of the party on the moves to reconcile the warring factions in the party.
The camp of the factional chairman of the party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff had, last week, announced its readiness to reconcile with the mainstream and collapse the factions.
Two leaders from the factions, Senator Ben Obi of the Makarfi group and Honourable Cairo Ojougboh of the Sheriff faction, had jointly announced that a peace option was in the offing without prejudice to all outstanding matters in court.
Sources in the party however told the Nigerian Tribune on Sunday that the Makarfi-led National Committee would brief the stakeholders to pave the way for total reconciliation.
Though the publicity secretary of the committee, Price Dayo Adeyeye, only said that the peace process was alive when our correspondent called him on Sunday, sources close to the process, said that the Makarfi team was set to brief the stakeholders.
“I can confirm to you that the Senator Makarfi-led Caretaker Committee is on the verge of meeting with all the stakeholders to pave the way for genuine reconciliation.
“The team will soon schedule meetings with the governors, the Board of Trustees and other critical stakeholders to analyse the way forward.
“The Sheriff faction did not really submit any demand that we cannot handle as a party, but there is the need to carry the stakeholders along and that is what the Caretaker committee is working on,” the source said.
The source added that a final peace option would be ratified after the meetings with the critical stakeholders.
The Makarfi and Sheriff groups had, last week, addressed a joint press conference where they announced the decision to work together.
