PDP postpones reconciliation visit to Adedoja

Published by

FRESH reconciliation talks by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national leadership on Monday were called off at the last minute On Tuesday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, due to what the leaders described as unavoidable circumstances.

A large number of party faithful, including elders from within and outside the state, had converged on the Ikolaba residence of one of the contestants in the last national convention of the party, Professor Taoheed Adedoja from 11 am, based on a prior notice on the meeting at the instance of the PDP national headquarters in Abuja.

But, the party faithful had to disperse at about 3 pm following an urgent message from the PDP National Reconciliation Committee headed by Governor Seriake Dickson, through the deputy national secretary of the party, Prince Diran Odeyemi that the trip was called at the last minute because of a pressing matter that prevented the governor from the trip.

Dickson was directed to carry on with its assignment that predated the birth of the new party executive because of the complaints by some chairmanship contestants over the outcome of the December 2017 PDP national convention held in Abuja.

The primary aim of the postponed meeting by the reconciliation committee was to prevail on Adedoja to withdraw his case challenging the result of the chairmanship election at the convention on the ground that his name was missing in the ballot.

A former PDP acting national chairman, Chief Uche Secondus emerged as the substantive national chairman of the party.

The deputy national publicity of the PDP, Prince Diran Odeyemi, who delivered the message to the party faithful on the development, expressed the unreserved apology of the PDP and Dickson for the development, but with a promise that the party would communicate a new date for the reconciliation talks with Adedoja.

On his part, the former minister of sports and special duties and two-time governorship contestant in the state reassured that his doors were opened anything the reconciliation committee planned to come again.
