PDP pledges to stop imposing candidates on electorate

Published by

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina State, on Thursday, said it had put a stop to the attitude of imposing candidates on the electorate or party members.

Alhaji Salisu Majigiri, the state PDP chairman, who spoke while addressing party officials and stakeholders in Katsina, said the party would no longer impose unpopular candidates on people to contest elections.

“We have met and discussed the issue of imposing candidates on our members and we realised that our people do not like the idea.

“We have resolved to do away with it and henceforth encourage democratic ways of electing our contestants.

“We have learnt our lesson in the 2015 elections and we are ready to go back to the normal way of selecting candidates through the primaries.

“We are now ready to provide a level playing ground to all our candidates, so as to strengthen the party and move it forward,” he said.

The chairman said the party had directed the six persons willing to contest the by-election of Mashi Dutsin Federal Constituency, whose elected member, Sani Bello died, to get ready for the primary election slated for May 20.

Majigiri said that the party would conduct the party’s primaries on May 5, so as to prepare for the main election on May 20.

He called on all party supporters to avoid rancour, speculations and bickering in order to achieve the desired goal.
