PDP nullifies Ekiti delegates congresses

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has nullified the disputed three-man Ad-Hoc Ward Delegate Congresses recently conducted in the state. 

This formed part of the outcome of the emergency meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party held at the national secretariat of the party in Abuja on Monday. 

The meeting came after the national leadership of the main opposition party held a stakeholders meeting attended by the feuding groups in the state chapter of the party in a bid to resolve the crisis bedevilling the party in the state.

According to a statement issued Monday night and signed by the PDP National Chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu and the National Secretary, Senator Samuel N. Anyanwu, the party will now conduct fresh congresses using statutory/automatic delegates list. 

The NWC also directed all members with cases in court over the congresses to withdraw them or face its disciplinary committee. 

Part of the statement read: “The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at its 542nd NWC meeting held on December 15, 2021 set up a Special Committee comprising of members of the Board of Trustees (BoT), the Governors Forum, Leadership of the National Assembly and members of the NWC to look into the issues arising from Ekiti State PDP Congresses and subsequently, the 3-Man Ad-Hoc Ward Delegate Congresses held on 15th January, 2022.

“In consideration of the petitions and complaints received from party stakeholders on the conduct of the three-man Ad-Hoc Ward Delegate Congresses, the NWC in an emergency meeting convened today January 24, 2022, after a on the reports of the Special Committee and that of the Appeal Panel, resolved as follows: That all parties and stakeholders have agreed to abide by the decision of the Party in all matters relating to all issues concerning the position of the party in Ekiti State.

“That the three-man Ad-Hoc Ward Delegate Congresses in Ekiti State held on 15th January, 2022 is hereby nullified.

“That the party’s governorship primary election shall be conducted using the Statutory/Automatic Delegates list. 

“That all pending court cases in all matters relating to the congresses in Ekiti State must be withdrawn forthwith.

“That any person defiant to the decision to withdraw all pending court cases which contradicts the provisions of the party’s constitution shall be referred to the Disciplinary Committee of the party.

“That the party assures all aspirants, stakeholders and party faithful of a free, fair, transparent and credible governorship primary election in Ekiti State.”
