IN his quest for the chairmanship position of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), High Chief Raymond Dokpesi has secured the support of Kogi, Nasarawa and Benue states in the forthcoming National Convention billed for August 17, at Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The chairman of PDP Nasarawa State and a former lawmaker, Hon Francis Orogu, said Dokpesi has the best credentials to lead the party.
He urged Dokpesi to end impunity and imposition in the party which he attributed as the failure of the PDP in previous elections in the state.
“If there is hope for PDP, it is in Nasarawa. We have been short-changed by the national body in the past. When you get there, don’t let impunity continue. These delegates are yours. You have more than any other candidates to give to this party and we will vote for you,” Orogu said.
Earlier, during his visit to delegates in Kogi on Sunday, the women leader of PDP Kogi State, Chief Margaret Orebiyi, corroborated the party chairman, Hon Sam Uhuotu, saying that the All Progressives Congress, APC, is already jittery over the credentials of the High Chief
Meanwhile, Dokpesi, assured the delegates that when elected into office, he will end the reign of imposition of candidates in the party.
“PDP was formed to be an umbrella to protect all of us from rain, sun but after our victory in 1999, our leaders abandoned the principles of our founding fathers, which made some people to leave and led us to where we are today. We must return to the vision of our founding fathers because the PDP of today is not the same as the party that was formed in 1998,” he said.
Other speakers including former deputy governor of Nasarawa State, Prof Onje Gyawado, assured Dokpesi of their support at the national convention.
