PDP leadership crisis: Edo PDP advises Makarfi to resign now

As the unending leadership crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) continues unabated, Edo State chapter of the party on Friday advised its National Caretaker Committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, to resign now that the ovation “is high”.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja by its Acting Publicity Secretary, Prince Gregory Iseghohi, it advised Makarfi to study the two court orders in Lagos and Abuja “and bow out honourably” for the party to forge ahead .

The state chapter expressed displeasure over the lost of Edo and Ondo governorship elections, which it blamed on the Makarfi-led committee.

According to the statement, “We the PDP in Edo State are worried because the distraction and the damage the emergence of the caretaker committee has done is unquantifiable

“We lost the senatorial election in Imo State and also the gubernatorial elections in Edo and Ondo states because of this, enough is enough.”

While making reference to the court orders in Lagos and Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Edo PDP said, “18th May 2016, in Suit NO: FHC/L/CS/613/2016 by Hon. Justice I.N Buba order restrained INEC and PDP from conducting election

“Suit NO. FCT/HC/CV/1443/16 by Hon. Justice A.B. Mohammed, ordered that the tenure of the current NWC expires in 2017.

“Based on these two judgments, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff suspended the May 21, 2016 convention, because he was obeying court orders.

“But Justice Liman went ahead to perfect impunity by giving  a judgment that the National Caretaker Committee is legal. Liman would not have taken the case or passed judgment in the first place.

“The question is that, is it legal to obey court order or is Sheriff going to be punished for obeying court order?

“For this reason, stakeholders in the PDP in Edo State met on Friday in Abuja advised Makarfi to toe the line of honour and bow out when the ovation is high.”
