PDP hails Jonathan over peace moves

THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under the leadership of Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has hailed former President Goodluck Jonathan for his intervention in the leadership crisis besetting the party.

The former president summoned a meeting of PDP governors forum in his Maitama, Abuja office on Tuesday night where they resolved to pursue a political solution to the imbroglio.

The PDP National Working Committee (NWC) met in Abuja on Wednesday for the first time since Court of Appeal restored Sheriff as the national chairman of the party and came out with a resolution praising the former president.

According to a statement issued by the National Secretary of the party, Wale Oladipo, after the meeting, the party also commended the governors for their stance.

The statement read: “The NWC commends the leadership role exhibited by His Excellency, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in finding a lasting solution to the PDP leadership crisis.

“The NWC notes with satisfaction the stand of the body of PDP governors on the need to adopt a political solution in bringing lasting peace to the party.

“The NWC restates its readiness to fully participate in the peace process.

“The NWC hereby calls on all staff of the PDP National Secretariat to resume duties immediately.

“NWC received and approved the request from Ebonyi State PDP for the approval of the time – table to conduct primaries for the local government elections.

“Finally, the NWC commends the National Chairman, Senator (Dr) Ali Modu Sheriff for the swift renovation of the National Secretariat.”
