PDP crisis: North central group backs Sheriff

Published by

As the leadership tussle in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rages, the North-Central Transformation Youths, on Tuesday staged a solidarity rally in the Kogi State capital, Lokoja, to support Senator Ali-modu Sheriff as the national chairman of the party.

The members of the group, drafted from Kogi, Kwara, Niger, Nasarawa and Plateau states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) marched round the Kogi state capital to express their support for Sheriff.

The convener of the group, Austine Medaiyedu, said they organised the rally to congratulate Sheriff over his victory at the Court of Appeal, before they usher him into the party secretariat in Abuja.

The group urged him not to relent with his reconciliation agenda aimed at repositioning the party for the challenges ahead.

He said, “We want Senator Sheriff to be focused and reject all attempts by the disbanded caretaker committee to distract him.

“Members of PDP should not continue to be doing the same thing the same way and expect a different result.

“We have agreed to stage a solidarity rally tagged, ‘Sheriff for All’, to usher the national chairman into office at Wadata Plaza, the headquarters of PDP at no distant time.

“We are also appealing to all the Wakes and Fayoses of this world to desist from hate speeches and campaigns of calumny against the person of Senator Modu Sheriff, as any attempt to continue with their unguided statement on the person of the national chairman will be resisted at all cost

“With Senator Sheriff as our National Chairman, it will no longer be business as usual. We know that he is determined to build a new PDP that will be strong, viable and solid, to win the presidential election in 2019”.
