PDP crisis: Doherty charges Sheriff, Makarfi on peaceful resolution

FORMER Acting National Vice Chairman, Southwest zone of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Engr Deji Doherty, has said that for peace to reign in the party, both Senator Alimodu Sheriff and Ahmed Makarfi-led factions should come together, stop laying claims to the leadership of the party and allow a convention to elect leaders of the party to hold.

Doherty, who is also former governorship aspirant of the party in Lagos State, said this in a chat with newsmen on Tuesday, in reaction to the crisis currently rocking the PDP.

“To find lasting solution to the crises both the sheriff caucus and the Makarfi caucus should please sheath their swords, think about the party and Nigeria as a whole by coming to the roundtable, resign their positions and allow the convention planning committee of the party conduct a credible free and fair election to constitute a new executive to steer the affairs of the party towards the preparation against the 2019 general election.

“The solution to this problem can never be found in a supreme court judgement as it will serve as a very dangerous antidote for this crisis, rather, I believe that if all the PDP governors come together as an entity and most especially Governor Ayo Fayose to meet with the Dickson committee, with both of them coming together the current impasse will become a thing of the past.

“Whatever the case maybe the party is bigger than any individual, the life of the party is more paramount and supersede all that we can ever think about, at this particular point in time we should be thinking and put our hands together towards getting ready for the 2019 general elections,” he said.

The politician, who noted that the PDP is a peace-loving party, but unfortunately, things have not been rosy for it in the State for the past 15 years before the present national crisis, urged members to focus on ways the party would come out of the quagmire it presently found itself.

“The PDP is a peace-loving party and we believe that peace should reign in the party. Unfortunately, things have not being rosy for the party in the state for the past 15 years before the present national crises and we are tired of all this, and as such, the only thing every party member should focus on are ways the party will come out of the quagmire it presently finds itself.

“In this regard, I am of the opinion that the Governor Seriake Dickson-led Peace and Reconciliatory Committee should follow through its move and advice to the BOT of the party to find a lasting solution to the crises,” Doherty said.
