PDP chieftain lauds Okowa for paying road contractors in Delta

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Delta State

PEOPLES Democratic Party (PDP) Chieftain, Chief Sunny Onuesoke, has commended the Governor of Delta State, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, for releasing funds to major roads contractors in the State.

Onuesoke gave the commendation when he paid an unscheduled on-the-spot assessment of the Ughelli-Asaba dualisation road project.

The Special Projects Director said he was elated with the visible development because the move would substantially improve contractors’ confidence in the state government and overall projects execution.

He said the release of funds to the major roads contractors was in tandem with the statement of the governor to transform peculiar terrain of the state by providing good roads.

Onueske pointed out that the first thing the governor did since inception was to intervene in the Benin-Warri Expressway which is a federal road by fixing the failed portions of the road.

He added that Okowa’s road imprints are now seen everywhere across Delta State.

“In Asaba, the capital of Delta State we have lost count of the number of roads the Delta State government has constructed or refurbished.

“Okowa’s administration has even advanced further by going into roads in the difficult terrains of Forcados, Burutu, Ode-Itsekiri and some riverine areas of Warri South West, Warri South and Warri North – places where princes feared to tread,” he stated.

Onuesoke explained that the beauty of it is that the governor has opened up roads that link the hinterland where it would become easier for foodstuff and goods to be transported to the upland markets.

He disclosed that Okowa has added new roads to be executed taking advantage of the dry season in addition to the over 90 roads projects that have been completed or are at different stages of completion.

“They include the reconstruction and resurfacing of roads like the old Umunede/Emuhu road, Obiaruku/Abbi roads, Ughelli-Asaba dualisation road, access road to Ugbuwangue new layout, construction of Okuomowa road to Osubi to link Efekpo lane and the construction of Ekete main road, off DSC expressway among others.

“All these projects have endeared persons in these catchment areas to Dr Okowa. No wonder they nicknamed him as ‘The Road Master,” the former governorship aspirant noted.

Onuesoke urged the people of Delta State to re-elect Okowa in 2019 to enable him to complete some of the ongoing road projects and to construct new ones so as to bring socio-economic development to the State.
