PDP Chieftain calls for unity in politics

Published by

Alhaji Muhammad Gwarzo, a prominent member of the People Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano State, has urged political parties and their supporters to draw lessons from the recent wedding ceremony held in Kano.

The wedding of Fathia, which united the son of Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin and the daughter of House of Representatives Minority Leader Hon. Aliyu Madaki, showcased unity and camaraderie across party lines.

Despite their different political affiliations—Barau Jibrin being a staunch member of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and Aliyu Madaki being a chieftain of the New Nigeria People Party (NNPP)—the wedding saw attendees from various political parties.

Alhaji Gwarzo emphasised the importance of avoiding acrimonious politics, urging individuals not to perceive politics as a battle but rather as an avenue to contribute to nation-building.

In his words, “Members of political parties to always put the interest of the country at heart, as well as look for ways to create a peaceful and harmonious relationship”, adding that the recent marriage between the notable politicians should serve as a good lesson to emulate.

He highlighted the supposed confrontational stance between the NNPP and the APC in the state.

Despite this, the state government’s Deputy Governor, Comrade Abdulsalam Gwarzo, attended Fathia’s wedding, illustrating that unity and love must take precedence in the realm of politics.

The wedding ceremony, held in Kano, brought together politicians from diverse political spheres. Senate President Godswill Akpabio praised the presence of figures like the Labour Party’s Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and other key political figures at the event, considering it a demonstration of a unified Nigeria.

During the ceremony, the Chief Imam of the mosque, Sheikh Abdullahi Mahmud Salga, officiated the union between Abdullahi and Bilkisu after a dowry of N500,000 was paid.

Senate President Akpabio emphasised the significance of peaceful coexistence in politics and advised the newlyweds to prioritise love, patience, and peaceful interactions.

The Vice President, Senator Kashim Shetima, represented the groom, while the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, stood in for the bride in accordance with Muslim rites.

Prominent personalities, including Kano State Deputy Governor Comrade Abdulsalam Gwarzo, former Ogun State Governor Senator Gbenga Daniel, Senators, House of Representatives members, lawmakers, and Alhaji Dantata, were among the notable attendees.
