A Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Benedict Akika, has harped on the socio-economic growth of Ibadanland, the capital city of Oyo State.
Akika made this known while receiving an award as Most Outstanding Friend of Ibadanland at a programme organized by the Central Council of Ibadanland in Ibadan at the weekend.
Akika stated that the award conferred on him is borne out of his contribution to the development of the land even as a non-indigene.
The PDP advised that the development of the land should not be left in the hands of the government alone, adding that stakeholders have roles to play.
He, therefore, assured that as an individual, he would not relent in his contribution to the development of the land.
In his remark, the Speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Debo Ogundoyin lauded the tremendous contributions of the awardee to the development of the Ibadan metropolis and the people of Ibadan.
He urged other well-meaning Nigerians to emulate Akika, saying if people can do that, Ibadan, Oyo and Nigeria at large will be better off.
Earlier in his remark, the CCII President-General, Barr. Ajeniyi Ajewole, said CCII intentionally decided to honour outstanding Ibadan indigenes who have made significant contributions to the development of the city.
He stated that the awards was aimed at recognising and celebrating the achievements of Ibadan sons and daughters who have excelled in various fields, including business, education, healthcare, and entertainment.
He emphasised that the awards are part of CCII’s efforts to promote Ibadan’s rich cultural heritage and inspire young people to strive for excellence.
Other awardees are Alhaja Kudirat Owoola, Engr. Maj. Rasak Salau, Prof. Isiaka Kolawole, Pham. Yekini Adeniran, Prof. Remi Raji, Prof. Musa Aibinu and Mogaji Ishola Olorode among others.
